This Week at the Library - February 13th - 19th, 2022

Another busy week here at the library as we prepare for our winterizing, “Button Up”, project that is slated to begin next Monday, February 21st. The team from Shakes and Shingles will be tightening up the air leaks in our attic and putting in new insulation. We look forward to feeling cozier and saving money on our heating bills and we are most appreciative of the contributions from our patrons and friends which is making this all possible.

And this week, prior to the start of the project, a walkway around the sky-light was added making it safer to approach and clean the window... unfortunately the window is a magnet for dead flies!

Once the project begins, there will be a lot of equipment coming and going, so it has been decided to close the library, while the work is being done. The library will be closed the whole week of February 21st… that is, we will be closed on the Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday of that week. This is your warning to stock up this week!

New Books added to our collection!

·         Patterson, James with Mike Lupica – The Horsewoman (2022) – Here’s what Louise Penny has t say: Patterson and Lupica manage to get deep into the world of high-level show jumping and also, incredibly for two men, deep into the lives of three generations of strong women….This is a hugely entertaining, riveting, page-turner of a book. A thrilling and thoughtful read.” Yikes, I can’t wait to start reading!!

·         Rooney, Sally Beautiful World, Where are You? – (2021) – Sally Rooney’s third novel takes its title from a line in a poem and it is a question her two main female characters, best friends from college now on the cusp of 30, grapple with repeatedly in their struggles to figure out how they should live and find meaning in a troubled world that has become increasingly unviable on multiple levels – ecologically, economically, ethically, and emotionally. Sally Rooney, a young Irish , seen on Hulu/BBC).

·         Steel, Danielle The Good Fight (2018) – Ms Steel takes us back to the 1960s where we meet a young woman discovering a passion for justice and of the unsung heroes she encounters on her quest to fight the good fight.

·         Wingate, Lisa – The Book of Lost Friends (2020) – Ms Wingate takes us back to post war – Civil War time as three young women search for family amid the destruction and also tells the story of a modern-day teacher who learns of their story and its vital connection to her students’ lives.

·         Sloat, Christy – The Librarian, The Archivist, and The Bibliophile – This trio of books will particularly appeal to our young adult readers and involves libraries, time travel, adventure, and romance and it all starts with Emme in Maine!

… with a visit to the library. Just a reminder... Be sure to stock up as we will be closed all next week.

One last thing…. Do you have hearing aids? If yes, might you use Ravovac Size 13 batteries? If so, we have some batteries for you at no charge thanks to a kind patron who is not able to use them. Yes, we are your all services library!!
