October News

 Byron G Merrill Library October News

Fall has arrived and the days have been sunny and beautiful here in Rumney. 


We have been listening to a few patrons who have been asking that the library be open an additional afternoon a week and we agree- we love that you want to be here! 


Our new hours are: 

Mondays 10:00 am-1:00 pm and 3:00 pm-5:30 pm (the library will be closed from 1:00-3:00)

Wednesdays 1:00 pm -5:30 pm

Saturdays 10:00 am-1:00 pm 


  • Monday October 23rd 10:15 Story time: “Everything Pumpkins” 


  • Wednesday October 25th After School Program- 3 - 5 for grades 5-8

Read a book in a comfy chair, create art, play games, build with legos, snacks too

  • Saturday October 28th 10:30 - 12 Steampunk Pumpkin Day! Bring a pumpkin if you can (we will have some here too) and have fun creating a "Steampunk Pumpkin". We will supply a variety of screws, nuts, bolts, and washers... Have fun playing Halloween Bingo with prizes and, of course there will be snacks!
  • Friday, November 3rd 5:30 - 7:00 - The Big Read at BGM Join us to discuss the book, The Bear, by Andrew Krivak... a stunning tribute to the beauty of nature's dominion and explores powerful themes about the importance of intergenerational storytelling, our complicated relationship with the environment, and how to prepare for an unknown future. A Family Event.

WHO: Those who have read the book The Bear by Andrew Krivak

                                WHAT: A community discussion about the book, all are welcome!

WHEN: Friday November 3, 2023 - 5:30-7:00

Recurring events 

  • Family Time 

Join us on Monday mornings at 10:15 for storytime, activities and crafts.Fall themed stories for the month of October. This is a fun time for kids to play together, learn new skills and for parents to share.


  • After School Group 

We are piloting an after school group on Wednesdays from 3:00-5:00. This group will be for 5th-8th graders and will take place downstairs in the Teen Room.
