Happy October from all of us at Byron G Merrill Library! October is such a special month... We start with such beauty all around us as the surrounding hills show off their colors and then we end with the spookiest holiday of all... Halloween!

We have a few events planned so wanted to update you on the when and wheres...
• Starting Wednesday, Oct 9th at 10 am Preschool Story Time With Jane... We’re inviting Moms and little ones to join us each week at 10 as we have fun together reading a story and completing a craft.
• Thursday, Oct 10th at 2 ... Rumney Knitters. Beth is bringing one of her delicious cakes and we will have the teapot brewing. Bring along a project and join us for the afternoon. Everyone is invited!
• Thursday, October 24th at 3 with Rachel when we learn “All About Apples”. Rachel has several fun things planned for kids of all ages... Sure hope you can join us.
• Thursday, October 31st is Halloween and we have a few things planned! We will have trick or treating at the library from 4:30 til 5:30. Susan’s house will be available for hanging out (like we did last year) and having a potluck supper...Everyone’s invited! The Church will have its doors open and will be offering chili and hot chocolate and games for the kids... A busy night in Rumney Village!

Big News! This month the library will be open on Wednesdays until 7. Please spread the word.

October Displays
• Enjoy New Hampshire... A selection of books have been set aside to help you celebrate our beautiful state... lots of ideas for a drive, a hike, or a place to see.
• 1000 Books to Read Before You Die... Guess we had better get going! We have set out highly recommended titles from the stacks.

New Books...
• The Pioneers by David McCullough – the heroic story of the settlers who brought the American ideal west
• These Truths by Jill Lepore – an ambitious and very readable one volume history of the United States – Jim T and Joe P both say ‘Wonderful’
• Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly (author of the Lilac Girls) – This novel, set a generation earlier, follows three women from St Petersburg to Paris under the shadow of WWI
• The Bitterroots by C J Box – a stand-alone novel set in Montana, signed by the author, and sent to us by Jan and John Serfass!
• A Good Enough Mother by Bev Thomas – another one of those psychological page-turners that we are all enjoying!

See you at the Library! Susan
