February 2021 at the Library... Something for Everyone!!

Jane has been comparing the current sunrise and sunset times to December 21st, the Winter Solstice..... We have added 62 minutes of daylight so far... Yay! She is already looking at seeds and dreaming of her garden. But in the meantime I still find it rather cold outside... BRRRRR... it has been really cold!

Winter Book Sale - We are updating our Book Sale offerings. The adult fiction selections have moved to the book case near the back door and we have lots of new titles for you to choose from... as always, we ask that you make a contribution to our library fund.

Christmas Club - January 25th was a big date as we laid out our first plans for a successful and happy 2021 Christmas season. Check out rumneychristmasclub.blogspot.com

Covid Updates: The NH State Library updates us regularly with suggestions for keeping safe. We have implemented a "self check out" procedure and it seems to be working well. We thank our patrons for being so considerate of everyone's safety in the library.

It has been suggested to us that we remind our patrons to not share their vaccination info on sites like facebook. Your vaccination card contains personal information which we know you want to keep private.

For the most up to date information please visit the of Health & Human Services and Centers for Disease Control, and vaccines.nh.gov websites.

Little Readers: For a fun family activity, walk around the outside of the library building and count all the hearts posted in the lower windows. We have a prize inside for those who find them all. (hint: there are 20).

Each week, Jane sends a "Story Time" email to all interested families. The email includes such things as a story to listen to, an activity, some yoga poses and perhaps descriptions of some new picture books. If you are not receiving this weekly email, please contact Jane and she will add you to the list.

We've added three new picture books to our collection!

You Matter, by Christian Robinson.” Near or Far, Big or Small, first or Last, You Matter.” This lovely children’s book is not only about how we all matter but how all creatures, plants and the sun matter too.

The Snowy Valentine, by David Petersen. Step out into a snowy Valentine’s Day with Jasper the bunny as he searches the forest valley for a special gift for his loved one. So Adorable!

Winter Walk, by Virginia Brimhall Snow. Slide, step and stomp through the snow as “Grammy” and her grandkids explore the wintry woods and build a pinecone bird feeder. This has fun tips for building a snowman, a bird feeder and some winter trivia.

Big Kids: Our definition of "Big Kids" includes all young readers who are not 'Little"!!! We do divide the collection into three parts...
  • E for beginning readers - fun stories, beginning chapter books and lots of neat series
  • J for junior reading - all sorts of fiction (realistic, mystery, historical, fantasy), categorized books (STEM, biographies, art)
  • YA for Young Adult aka Teens! - These books are longer, more mature, and are housed downstairs
The children seem to be able to quickly find their special section of the library but if you parents need help just let us know!

This week we are featuring three new J books!
  • Hollowpox, The Hunt for Morrigan Crow book 3, by Jessica Townsend. Morrigan Crow and her friends have survived their first year as proud scholars of the elite Wundrous Society, helped bring down the nefarious Ghastly Market, and proven themselves loyal to Unit 919. Now Morrigan faces a new, exciting challenge: to master the mysterious Wretched Arts, and control the power that threatens to consume her. *Please note that this is Book 3 in the series

  • Keeper of the Lost Cities Unlocked book #9, by Shannon Messenger. The Lost Cities saga continues as Sophie and her friends meet each new challenge sometimes driving wedges between them. Unlocked is packed with game-changing twists and a guide to the world of the Lost Cities, with maps, character details and even some elvin recipes.
