Happy November 2019!

Happy November from all of us at Byron G Merrill Library! November is such a special month... We start with such beauty all around us as the surrounding hills become muted in color and the trees lose their leaves. And then we turn inward as we focus on our many blessings... Thanksgiving is such a wonderful day for many of us as we gather with family and friends and share our bounty. Let us remember those of us who are less fortunate.

We have planned a few special events and hope you will be able to join us.
• Each Wednesday at 10 am Preschool Story Time With Jane... We’re inviting Moms and little ones to join us as we have fun together reading a story, singing a song, playing a game, and completing a craft.
• Thursday, Nov 14th at 2 ... Rumney Knitters. We will have the teapot brewing so bring along a project and join us for the afternoon. Everyone is invited!
Perhaps you can being along something you’ve worked on for Christmas to inspire the rest of us!
• Thursday, November 21st at 3 we invite our 8 and up young people to join Rachel in making a fun Thanksgiving craft. Please rsvp so we have the right amount of supplies on hand!
• Thursday, November 28th is Thanksgiving and of course we will be closed. We wish you all a wonderful day!

November Displays
• The Classics have been gathered and are now on display in the ‘stack’ room... from Aesops’ Tales to The Virginian by Owen Wister, we have a good collection for you to choose from.
• Pulitzers throughout the years have been brought together... Perhaps there are some you missed reading... the 2019 winner, The Overstory by Richard Powers and the two runnerups are all available.
• Enjoy New Hampshire... A selection of books have been set aside to help you celebrate our beautiful state... lots of ideas for a drive, a hike, or a place to see.
• 1000 Books to Read Before You Die... Guess we had better get going! We have set out highly recommended titles from the stacks.
• Christian fiction, which includes authors Wanda Brunstetter, Beverly Lewis, and Janette Oke has its own area which will make these popular reads easy to find.

New Books (in no particular order!!!)
• The Dawn of the Clans by Erin Hunter...the sixth Warrior Series for our middle readers! This series of six books will tell how the Warrior Clans came to be....Not to be missed!
• It Began with a Page by Kyo Maclear...a story that poignantly portrays the life of Gyo Fujikawa, a groundbreaking hero in the fight for racial diversity in picture books. We are housing this delightful book in our STEAM section under art!
• Llama Llama Mess, Mess, Mess by Anna Dewdney.... Another wonderful Llama Llama book... this time it is cleaning day and the young llamas would much rather make a fort with blankets and chairs than help Mama Llama... well, you will just have to find out how this works out!
• Marilla of Green Gables by Sarah McCoy... Yes, you read correctly... Morilla not Anne! This story, for us adult Anne lovers, is a beautiful rendering of a beloved place, a complex woman, and a long ago time...a must read for me!
• A Delicate Touch by Stuart Woods... #48 in the Stone Barrington series... Yikes! Well the views are not particularly good but I know we have a lot of Stuart Woods fans. Take a chance...
• The Bookwanderers, Tilly and the Bookwanderers, and Tilly and the Lost Fairy Tales by Anna James... Three delightful stories for our middle readers about a young miss who helps out in her grandparents bookstore and learns how to wander into books! All three are on my list!
• Three Women by Lisa Taddeo.... This is one of the most talked about offerings this year. Lisa Taddeo introduces us to three unforgettable women and over eight years has gotten to know them and shares with us their sexual desires thus giving a portrait of longing in today’s America.
