This Week - Old Home Day, Upcoming Art Walk, New Fiction Titles, a bit of rambling and Miss Ari trying her luck!

Eight days have passed since Old Home Day 2022 and everyone coming into the library agrees that it was a most wonderful day for Rumney. My former assistant, Rachel, and the committee worked so hard these past few months with their preparations… the parade, the craft booths, the entertainment, the church supper, the fireworks… a long and festive day! We thank you all.

Marie Nolan stopped in to tell us about Art Walk 2022 which will take place in Rumney Village on Saturday, August 27^th from one until four. This will be your chance to meet several of our very talented artists and see some of their artwork. Flyers will be available outside the Rumney Historic Museum and at the library with a listing of the participating artists.

The calendar tells me that August is flying by… Our children’s summer reading program, Oceans of Possibilities, has come to an end and prizes awarded. This librarian learned a bit from her middle schoolers. Did you know that Greenland sharks live at the bottom of the bays around Greenland in very frigid temperatures and can live for 500 years?!

Our Beach Reads and new book displays have received a lot of attention from our adult readers with folks stopping by one and two times a week. Jane has been busy filling in requests through our Inter-Library Loan program. Our “downloadable” numbers are up as well. We do pay an annual fee for this service and love that it makes our library available 24/7!

Carlisle, Kate – Two new bibliophile mysteries for your enjoyment… The Book Supremacy (2019) and The Grim Reader (2020)

Green, Jane – Sister Stardust (2022) featuring the glamorous sixties!

Giffin, Emily – Meant to Be (2022)  Two people finding each other and some of us are very glad that we did find each other!

Hilderbrand, Elin – The Hotel Nantucket (2022) – Quite a few of us wait eagerly for Elin’s annual offering and a perk of my job is that I got to read it first. You won’t be disappointed.

Kearsley, Susanna – The Winter Sea (2008) – This fat historical fiction paperback is the first of a trilogy strongly recommended by Jane and I think fans of the Outlander series will enjoy this.

Sager, Riley – The House Acoss the Lake (2022) – Packed with sharp characters, psychological suspense, and gasp-worthy plots twists – Shari Lapena fans…. Get your name on the list!

Shipman, Viola – The Edge of Summer (2022) - …and I know who will be the very first through the door looking for this read!

Thayer, Nancy – Two older reads donated by one of our favorite patrons which I know you will enjoy… Belonging (1995) and Custody (2002)
