Happy New Year
2021…2021...2021 has finally rolled around like an echo taking its time
to resound…and with 2021 we hold hope for a better year ahead. At the Byron G
Merrill Library we have learned daily of the kindness, patience and support of
our patrons and that no matter what, reading is important. We will continue to
provide you with the best service we are able, building our collection to meet
your reading requests and provide a safe welcoming environment at the library.
What’s
new at Byron G
Merrill? We are opening our doors to the public again after a brief closing
over the Holidays. Our new hours are Wednesday 1-4 and Saturday 10-12. We will
have signage to guide you through our returns and self-check-out system. We are
continuing our porch-side pick-ups and returns. If you have any book requests
you may email sturbyne@rumneylibrary.org. Masks are required and sanitizer
provided. We thank you for helping us keep the library a safe place for all.
The Rumney
Library continues its Interlibrary loan service. If you cannot find a
book in our collection, we will gladly search for it. Interlibrary loans
include requests for books for all ages, DVDs, and audio CDs.
The Overdrive
online books site is always adding new materials for checkout. Many new
magazines along with books and audios have been added. If you need assistance
with Overdrive or the Libby app, email jkelso@rumneylibrary.org.
BGM
Website is up and
going! Go to rumneylibrary.org to take a look. The website features our blogs
with the newest posting at the top. If you are searching for a book, the Book
Lists tab on the left will link you our adult fiction and nonfiction titles.

Books and more Books! Here are a few of our latest and greatest for January:
Hidden in Plain Sight, by Jeffery Archer
This book is
#2 in the William Warwick series. Warwick has been promoted to detective sergeant
and is now assigned to the drug squad. As the team closes the net around the
criminal network Warwick devises a trap they would never expect…hidden in plain
sight.
Daylight, by David Baldacci
A new
thriller in the Atlee Pine series, book #3 is sure to be a page turner. The
search for her missing sister leads them to the kidnapper and into a seemingly
unescapable worldwide conspiracy.
Piece of My Heart, by Mary Higgins Clark & Alafair Burke
The newest
and final book in the Under Suspicion series, Laurie Moran and Alex Buckley,
hosts of the television show Under suspicion, are just days away from their
wedding when Alex’s seven -year- old nephew vanishes from the beach. Along with
a retired NYPD detective they are determined to track down every lead.
The Last Traverse, by Ty Gagne
New in
nonfiction, The Last Traverse, Tragedy and Resilience in the Winter Whites provides
a detailed look at the events that turned a day hike into a struggle for
survival in the New Hampshire White Mountains.
Darkness Within, The Broken Code series #4, by Erin Hunter
This is the newest in the Warriors series and a great middle grade read. The Thunderclan leader is no longer the Bramblestar they knew. Even the most loyal warriors begin to wonder how long they can wait for their true leader to return before they must act. Can they find the true Bramblestar before it’s too late?
Share Some Kindness, Bring Some Light, by Apryl Stott
Inspired by
her grandfather’s words “When life gets dark as winter’s night, share some kindness,
bring some light”, this beautiful picture book tells of a young girl and her
friend bear who want to do just that for their friends.
Wishing
you all a wonderful new year. May we continue to care for others, share some
good books and keep on reading.
Respectfully
submitted,
Susan
Turbyne, Jane Kelso and Sheila O’Meara
