My memories of August in years past were endless hot days, my dad taking all the neighborhood kids swimming when he got home from work, and long evenings of “Giant Steps” and “Red Light” on the lawn as our parents sipped iced tea on the porch. May we all enjoy the next several weeks before getting back into our fall schedules.
This past month
has been busy with avid readers and the voices of our ‘Summer Readers’. Our five-week
program was well attended with Jane offering new challenges and activities each
week. Our best “guessers” ended up being Isla and Emma! Congratulations girls
on coming closest in our Guessing Jar challenge.
A big thank you to all who participated in our summer reading activities. We invite you all to stop by this week and select a FREE book to take home!
And, we thank Jane
for all the planning and creating to make it fun for our families.
Something new this summer was our ‘Book Mobile” that visited the Rumney School each Monday afternoon. We would arrive with crates of books hand-picked for the enjoyment of the 5th – 8th graders attending the school summer program. The students would select their books and immediately start to read as we packed up to return to the library. Thank you, Maggie Demler, for working with me each week!
It was a pleasure
to welcome Katy Gautsch to our library staff. Katy comes to us loaded with all
the skills and enthusiasm needed to help our library grow. She has enjoyed
meeting and serving our patrons this past month and is taking quite an interest
in our “Teen Room”.
Attention Teens….
Next time you are in, be sure to check our growing Teen and Young Adult sections.
We have some wonderful new books in addition to some cozy favorites. We have
added non-fiction books as well to meet your school reading requirements. We
will be happy to give you a tour.
